“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; . . . .”
This is the first sentence of the First Amendment to the greatest political document ever written in the entire known history of mankind. (Now that I’ve got my sentiments and extra prepositional phrases out of the way . . . .) This IS the law. There is no national religion.
I refuse to watch “The View” and so I wasn’t when John McCain visited the set the other day. I listened to the audio clips on the radio, though. For the most part, I heard what I expected: idiots making comments based entirely from emotional reactions rather than intellignet consideratons. This is what we’ve come to expect from “The View” and I don’t believe that anyone ever comes away dissappointed. Was replacing Rosie with Whoopie really a change?
Let’s set aside, for a now, the part where Whoopie the moron asks, “Should I be worried about being a slave, about being returned to slavery because certain things happened in the Constitution that you had to change.” And also the part where Barbara Walters replies, “You and Sherri, we’ll take care of you. Us white folk will take care of you.” Am I the only one whose jaw dropped on this one? Are liberals really this dumb, I mean, do they really think this way? Have they ever read a history book or, perhaps, the United States Constitution? Hint: read the 13th Amendment. Again, I’d like to point out that Abraham Lincoln formed the Republican Party on the basis of the abolition of slavery BECAUSE the act of slavery ran contrary to the Constitution and the founding principles. Now, what party was (and in my opinion, still is) the party of slavery? And on which party’s candidate are all of those idiots on “The View” already sold?
This argument isn’t about the slavery issue, but it is about a certain little thing called the First Amendment. The conversation that made my moron-sonar start pinging like crazy was Whoopie asking if the idea of Sarah Palin becoming the president made him worry about the “separation between church and state.” My initial reaction to this stupid phrase is always the same: THERE IS NO NATIONAL F’N CHURCH! England had a national church and a national religion. It was called The Church of England. Our nation’s founders saw myriad problems with having such an institution and crafted the Constitution to prohibit such a beast from ever having authority. THAT is the “separation between church and state” and the founding fathers checked it off the list over 232 years ago. The other thing about Whoopie’s question, about Palin’s comments with regard to being on God’s side in the War on Terror, McCain handled perfectly well and I don’t need to add my two-cents.
But it wasn’t over. Behar and Walters had to chime in. Joy Behar whined, “But what if you don’t believe in God?” Really? Then you don’t have to worry about what everyone else is dong then! If you don’t believe in God, is following the Golden Rule going to be a bad idea? If you don’t believe in God, is abiding by the Ten Commandments unreasonable? Thou shalt not steal. Sounds pretty reasonable to me. If you don’t believe in God, then don’t go to church. Because the founders crafted the Constitution in such a way as to prohibit a national church . . . there isn’t one and no one is forced to attend it!
Oh, but it still isn’t over with. After McCain shoots their first dodo bird from the sky, Whoopie sends up another. What about Muslims, she asks (she also mentioned some other religion – zolo astrians?). Well, Whoopie, Muslims worship God, don’t they? In Arabic, they call God Allah. In English that translates into, guess . . . yep, it translates into the English word: God. Wow, so by saying “In God we trust,” we really aren’t offending anyone! Yippee! Every religion worships a deity, sometimes multiple deities. Those deities are called God. What is so hard to understand about all this. Muslims believe that Mohammed was God’s prophet and that Jesus was just a community organizer. Jews agree with the community organizer part. Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah. Liberals believe that Obama is the Messiah. See, these are all different religions that all operate under the notion that there is a supreme being, in other words, that there is a God. Whew. Any questions? I may have to rewrite this in children’s book form, though, so the hosts of The View will be able to digest it.
Whoopie went on the say that prayer was stopped in schools because children were praying to different gods. What? Don’t we all, whatever our religious bent, pray to the same God? Why should it matter then, based on Whoopie’s comment, if kids are praying in school? The answer to this one is simple: morons like Whoopie Goldberg (by the way, is that her real last name?) think that the notion of a “separation between church and state” means that spiritual beliefs shouldn’t play any role in public life. Presidents shouldn’t pray and they definitely shouldn’t apply any of their world views that happen to coincide with their religious views to execution of their duties. So, if McCain ever shows compassion to the least among us, then he will be guilty of “including church in the state,” right? That was a teaching of Jesus, after all.
If there is a theme to this blogg, it is that liberals are dumb. For every liberal thought, there is another that contradicts it. And that’s even when they know what they’re talking about. For me, my glass is half-full. Always will be. Every other conservative thinks the same way. Pessimism finds its home in the liberal’s mind. But, because of my optimism, I believe that the large majority of Americans are not sheep, that they are not stupid, and that they see the media-mercenaries for what they are. Charlie Gibson and his snide, condescending interview with Sarah Barracuda. Whoopie and Walters and Behar. CNN and MSNBC and ABC and NBC and CBS. So, because I believe that Americans ultimately see such interviews and idiocy for what they really are . . . I say keep it up. Every snide and snarky remark, every turned up nose, and every blatant insult only darkens the cloud over the Democrat Party. McCain/Palin in ’08. It’s gonna be great.
